Elizabeth Klump

December 21, 1944 — January 5, 2021

Liz was born in Wharton, Texas on December 21st, 1944 to Benny and Margaret (Zahn) Nitsche.  She attended school in Wharton County until Jr. High.  The family then moved to Shelby and she attended the rest of Jr. High in Industry school until the family started farming near Brenham where she attended school until graduating from Brenham High School in 1963.  She loved sports and was very athletic, playing volleyball and softball. Growing up, she always had a love for music and dancing. On Saturday mornings she was glued to the TV watching American Bandstand to learn every new song and dance that came out. She begged not to have to go to the cotton patch, so her mom told her then she had to fix lunch for everyone. They all came home for lunch and no lunch was ready!  She got caught dancing in front of the TV instead of her chore.  I think she got in big trouble, but she taught Joyce a new dance later. She continued her love for music by singing in the German Choir. Liz & Ronald won polka contests, led many grand marches, and could tear up a dance floor.

Liz was raised in a family of 6 children that loved living life and spending a lot of time outdoors. Every year while growing up, her parents took the kids on a family vacation to the beach and relatives would join them.  It was like an annual get together for all the kids to enjoy and camp.

Liz was a fun loving person who enjoyed life but she was also a very hard working woman and very successful in life. She was a great seamstress, cook and gardener. She taught homemaking class at Brenham State School before she decided to buy a grocery store, then opening Klump’s Restaurant which became pretty well known from Houston to Austin and to the locals for her good home cooking. Ronald helped her on weekends with his famous BBQ and fried chicken. They were a great team together and shared a special love of many things in their life together.

She was so proud of her children Russell and Kristina. They were her world. When she spoke of her children, you could see a sparkle and smile at all times. Then a new kind of love came into her life and that was her grandchildren, Madeline and Kolten. Life started over again with that unconditional love for family. Being able to spend time with the grandkids, teaching them whatever they possibly could was the highlight of life after retirement.

Liz was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister that was always there if you needed her. She had a heart of gold and a sweet smile for everyone. She wasn’t a person that would give you advice but she would give you guidance in her own way.

Lis was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Klump of Round Top; son, Russell Klump and wife Jonna; daughter, Kristina Pierce and husband Mark; brothers, Charles Nitsche, Robert Nitsche, Ronnie Nitsche; sisters, Joyce Andrejczak and husband Harry, Debbie Schneider and husband Glen; grandchildren, Madeline and Kolten Pierce; numerous nieces and nephews and other family and loved ones.

Please keep our family in your prayers during these difficult times of grief.  We know she is in a better place with no suffering, but in peace and joy at her eternal home with the Lord.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the ALS Association.
