Sibyl Dene Smith, age 82, of La Grange, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on March 31, 2010 after a lengthy illness at Monument Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation in La Grange.
She was born on March 25, 1928, in Crosbyton, Texas to B. G. McDuff and Rena Elsby McDuff. She attended elementary school in Big Four Community and graduated from Crosbyton High in 1946. She worked in the oil industry as a secretary and was also a homemaker.
She married Joe Harold Smith on July 26, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas. She was a member of Broadway Church of Christ, and later, Trinity Church of Lubbock. While living in La Grange, she attended Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters; Judy Faris and husband Larry Faris of La Grange and Debbie Bacon of El Reno Oklahoma; three sons; Wayne Kent Ellison, Jr. and wife Sheila of Pergosa Spring, Colorado, Walter Smith of San Antonio and Michael Smith of San Antonio. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Bowers of Houston and a brother, Richard(Dick) McDuff of New Deal, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died on March 24, 2010; her father, Barney G. McDuff; mother, Rena Elsby McDuff; brother Buster McDuff; and infant granddaughter, Susette Andrea McCutcheon.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday April 3, 2010, from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange and from 8:00 AM until service time on April 4, 2010.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday April 4, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in La Grange. Interment will follow in the Winchester City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
