Shirley Jean Abrego

A visitation and celebration of life for Shirley Jean Abrego is scheduled for Friday, December 30, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. 

Shirley Abrego, 74, passed away December 21, 2022, at her family farm in La Grange surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 10, 1948 in Pasadena, Texas to Delvin and Junell Getschmann.  After school she married Daniel Abrego, Jr. and they later had three children.  Shirley was an avid reader, enjoyed playing Yahtzee, coloring and fishing. She also loved trips to Vegas. She was in a bowling league and also belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley loved the farm and riding her horses. She collected clowns and barbies, and she loved going on family vacations to Tennessee.  She enjoyed taking care of her family and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Delvin and Junell Getschmann and only brother, Timmy Getschmann.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Abrego, Jr. of La Grange; children Monica Abrego, Melissa Zientek and husband, Ronnie of Brenham, Mark Abrego and wife, Gema of Houston; sister-in-law Mariann Getschmann of Houston; grandchildren Krystal Romero, Amanda Zientek-Hernandez, Adrian Zientek and Damian Abrego; great grandchildren, Logan Romero, Brylar Zientek-Hernandez and Lukas Romero.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
