Ray Michael Hostetter, born on August 15, 1935, in Ft. Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on February 11, 2026. He was a man of deep faith, strong convictions, and a lifelong dedication to serving others.
Mike graduated from Pershing High School in Houston. After high school, he honorably served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic for four years, gaining skills and discipline that would guide him in his future endeavors.
Mike retired at the age of 42 and then moved to Fayette County where he dedicated 12 years of service to Flatonia Independent School District as the maintenance superintendent / transportation superintendent, along with having a daily bus route. Known fondly to students as "Mr. H," he touched the lives of many young people, instilling in them values of kindness, respect, and hard work.
Mike was a strong believer in Christianity. He was known for his generous spirit, always giving to those in need. His life was marked by a series of mission trips to Mexico, where he worked tirelessly to build churches and lead many individuals to Christ. His commitment to helping others was not just a hobby but a profound calling, reflecting his deep faith and love for humanity.
Mike’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Camille (Williams) Hostetter, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons, Bob (Donna) Saunders and Michael (Pimy) Saunders. Mike took immense pride in his grandchildren: Paul (Krystal) Saunders, Luke Saunders, Michael Jr. (Christina) Saunders, Madison (Julio Castellano) Saunders and McKenzie Saunders. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Landry, Blakely, Lyndee, Charlee, Payton, Preston, Katie and Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, R.A. Hostetter and Genevieve (Hodges) Hostetter, along with siblings.
Ray Michael Hostetter will be remembered not only for his service to his community but also for the warmth and love he shared with his family. His life exemplified the belief that through dedication to faith and service, one can create lasting impact and meaningful connections with others.
