Olga was born on December 6th, 1930 in Freyburg. Her parents were Otto Fiedler and Martha (Schilhab) Fiedler. She attended school at Abbots Grove. On May 1st, 1954, she married the love of her life, Carl Erwin Buchhorn. They were wed for 36 years and their main place of residence was La Grange. They were members of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Both of them were hard-working individuals who instilled these same values in their three beautiful daughters. Olga enjoyed her time as a homemaker canning, cooking, gardening, and hosting family gatherings. She worked as a cook at Riverside Cafe in La Grange where many in the community enjoyed her delicious meals. She was a long-standing member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Olga devoted her time to many adopted pets throughout her life including Pierre, Radar, Hank, Maxwell Peepers, Peanut and Kramer. Later in life, her hobbies and interests included spending time with her daughters, grandkids, and great grandkids. She prided herself on always calling family and friends on their birthdays, anniversaries, and any special occasion with love and well wishes. She taught the game of dominoes to her grandkids and great grandkids. She always kept score and never let anyone win. Olga also enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo with her fellow residents, friends, and caregivers at the Care Inn of La Grange. She spent the last 10 years of her life at Care Inn where she was treated with love, care, and compassion on a personal and professional level by all staff. She received many visitors there who would always look to her for the latest news and would gift her many sweet treats that she never turned down. Her family will forever be grateful for the kindness the Care Inn staff showed their Granny B.
Olga’s surviving family includes her daughter, Sandra Haley and husband Mark of Whitesboro. Olga leaves her sister Lorene Hengst of Schulenburg. Her grandkids, including Kristi Simmons and husband Cole of Austin, Rodney Svec and wife Kristy of Yoakum, Kimberly Pietsch and husband Shane of La Grange, Ashley Urban and husband Keith of Elgin, Chance Kansteiner and wife Heather of Richmond, and lastly, Sierra Haley and boyfriend Brad of Dallas.
