Nolan Meinardus

Nolan Meinardus was born October 29, 1937, in La Grange, Texas. To Nola (Bauer) and Alwin Meinardus. His mother passed away shortly after his birth. Alwin later married Sophie (Neese), who was the mother that raised Nolan. Nolan attended school in La Grange where he eventually met his wife of 68 years, Virginia Urban. They were married at Hostyn Catholic Church on November 6, 1955. Nolan and Virginia made their home together in La Grange where they welcomed two daughters, Joelyn, and Barbara.

The family moved to Austin when Nolan was accepted into the Austin Police Academy. Two sons, Nolan Jr. and Russell, were born in Austin. Nolan worked for APD for 28+ years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He moved his family to the Dripping Springs area where they lived until 1985. Nolan and Virginia moved back to their hometown of La Grange when they retired. They used La Grange as a base allowing them to travel most of the United States.

Nolan passed away with family in attendance on Friday, October 27, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Meinardus; daughters, Joelyn and husband Bruce Spence, Barbara, and husband Michael Chaddock, all of La Grange; sons, Nolan Jr. and wife Rebecca of Alma, AR, and Russell and wife Lola of La Grange. He was grandfather to 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and great-grandfather to 22. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Mike Urban and wife Betty, sister-in-law Linda Urban, and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Nolan was preceded in death by his mother, Nola (Bauer); father, Alwin Meinardus; stepmother, Sophie (Neese) Meinardus Edkel; brother, A.W. Meinardus, and in-laws, Lillian and Joseph Urban.
