Maggie Schulte, age 94, passed away at Care Inn in La Grange, Texas, on January 11, 2012.
Maggie Agnes Schulte was born on July 22, 1917, in Hallettsville, Texas to Frank and Annie Lanik. She was baptized on August 16, 1917, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and confirmed on May 1, 1929. On October 1, 1934, she was married to Fritz Schulte at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas by Father Mertes Mathais.
Maggie grew up in Hallettsville, Texas and worked on a farm with her parents. After her marriage Fritz Schulte, they moved to Addicks, Texas, to work on a dairy farm, then to Hempstead, Texas, to operate another dairy farm and ranch. Later on, Maggie went to work for Winfree’s Super Market in Hempstead and was head cashier and all around person in the store. They moved to Round Top, Texas and operated a small café in Carmine, then they bought F & M Grocery in Round Top and operated it for 16 years. Maggie was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top and was chairperson of the Sympathy Committee and was also on the Memorial Committee. Maggie loved to dance, fish, play dominoes, cards and bingo. Maggie was well known for her good Bar-B-Q sauce and Fritz was known for his good juicy Bar-B-Q. After Maggie’s retirement from the store she went to work for the Porch Office until it was sold.
She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Shirley Wagner and husband Clarence of Round Top, daughter Dorothy White and husband Reverend Harry White of Birch Run, Michigan, and daughter Patsy Farrington and husband Abe of Whitewright. She is also survived by step-brother, Sqy (Sonny) Wallace; six grandchildren, Lloyd Cooke and wife Cheryl of Hempstead, Cindy Jones and husband Al of Hempstead, Mark White and wife Nancy of Port Huron, Michigan, Mary Woodke and husband Darren of Gardiner, New York, Abram Farrington, Jr. and wife Heather of Mesquite and Shannon Farrington wife Heather of Denton; nine great-grandchildren, Jenny Arnold and husband Jason of Hempstead, Katherine Cooke of Hempstead, Chris Blazek and wife Andrea of Sealy, Steven Blazek and fiancé Christina DeBakey of Cypress, Megan and Mikayla White of Port Huron, Michigan, Rochelle Sibilia and husband Joe of East Green Bush, New York, Joshua Woodke of Gardiner, New York and Conor Farrington of Denton; five great great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kade Arnold of Hempstead, Juliana Blazek of Sealy, and Max and Sam Sibilia of East Green Bush, New York, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fritz; son-in-law, Albert Cooke; great-granddaughter, Kenydi Farrington; brothers, James and Frank Lanik; sisters, Martha Baxter and husband Jack, and Margaret Townsend and husband Sam.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday January 14, 2012, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home, in La Grange. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Sunday January 15, 2012, at 2:00 PM, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. Interment will follow at Richter Cemetery, near Round Top.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley of La Grange or Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top.
