Lester Keilers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026, at the age of 88.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Curtis), his stepson, Steve (Aggie), his brother, Kirby (Dorothy), along with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends and neighbors whose lives he touched.
If you knew him, you knew he loved a good story—and he was never afraid to tell the same story over, and over, and over, and over again. Most often, those stories involved his younger days, his fast cars, and, as he would probably admit himself, some questionable decisions and bad judgment along the way. Those stories became part of what made Lester, Lester, and his family will undoubtedly continue telling them for years to come.
He was also a true grill master. He could cook some of the best chicken ever known to man, and he especially enjoyed having people over to share it. Of course, part of the experience was making sure everyone told him just how good his chicken was. And they were happy to oblige.
He loved people and enjoyed nothing more than talking with anyone who would stop long enough to listen. He could often be found cruising around his farm or down Bauer Road in his utility vehicle, searching out someone to visit with. His farm was also a favorite gathering place for his family, whom he loved having around. He enjoyed watching them fish in his pond and spend time shooting at the various impromptu ranges that were set up around the property.
He spent many years working at GE, and he enjoyed reminiscing about his time there, particularly the practical jokes, good-natured kidding, and the fun he had with his co-workers. He carried that playful spirit throughout his life.
He enjoyed his retirement and made the most of his days. After losing Jane, life was understandably different, on Sundays he would visit Jane's grave, attend church services (he loved his church family), and then on to Care Inn to play bingo with his friends. He continued to find comfort and enjoyment in the simple things—especially settling in with his favorite old television shows, and lately his "Wheel of Fortune", and reliving the memories of a life well lived.
He was one of a kind. He could make you laugh, tell you a story you had already heard several times, feed you some unforgettable chicken, and somehow make you glad you stopped by. He loved his family, enjoyed his friends, and never seemed to run out of stories to tell.
He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. His stories, his laughter, his mischievous spirit, and his love of family will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest easy, Lester. And save us a seat at the grill.
Donations can be made in Lester’s name to St. John’s Lutheran Church – Warrenton.
