A memorial service for Leon Heintschel is set for 11 AM, December 10, 2022, at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas.

Leon L. Heintschel, 78, passed away at his home in Fayetteville, TX, on November 28, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Leon was born January 12, 1944 to Leon and Leona (Braun) Heintschel in Fayetteville, Texas.

On November 30, 1963 he married Joan Treybig at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinger, Texas by Rev. A. E. Flathmann.

After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1962, he was employed by Albers Hatchery & Feed Store. Later he was employed by the Texas Highway Department in maintenance, where he retired after 30 years. During his employment there, one of his duties was transporting heavy equipment to different job sites and counties. He operated almost every type of equipment, but his favorite job was operating the motor grader building roads. He was complimented many times by his boss for doing a good job. After retiring he mowed yards for a number of years.

Leon also enjoyed gardening, and had fruit trees. He always shared vegetables and fruit with family and friends. He loved to hunt and could not wait for deer season to open. He enjoyed his trips to Louisiana. He enjoyed listening to country western music and polka and waltz shows on tv, and was a great dancer. His favorite country western singer was George Jones. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his twin grandchildren Joshua and Sarah, whom he thought the world of, and later his great-grandson David who also stole his heart.

Someone once asked if Leon ever met a stranger. Yes, but they weren’t strangers long. He loved to talk and would stir up conversations with everyone.

Leon was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years Joan Heintschel, daughter Rhonda Fischer & husband Curtis, grandchildren Joshua Fischer and Sarah Fischer, and great-grandson David Fischer. Also, Sisters Gladys Svec & husband Theo, and Artie Lee Schultz. Brothers Milton Heintschel & wife Ann and Lambert Heintschel & wife Angela.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Adam Michael Fischer, half-brothers Edgar Heintschel & wife Adeline, Clarence Heintschel & wife Earline, Arthur Heintschel and wife Estella, and Harry Heintschel & wife Laurie. Half-sisters Elvira Lillie & husband Elo, and Ivy Heintschel. Sisters, Leara Henneke & husband Robert, and Ruth Seifert & husband A.F. Brother-in-law James Schultz.
