Jack Flynt Elder, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 in College Station, Texas surrounded by his family as he entered his eternal home.

Jack was born on March 28, 1934 in Karnes County, Texas. He arrived into this world alongside his twin brother, John. At birth, he only weighed 1.5 pounds and somehow survived by his parents resting him in a shoe box on top of an old wood stove.

At an early age, Jack learned about hard work, honesty and integrity. These were the values that would define his entire life. He built a life rooted in family, faith and service to others.

Jack owned and operated Elder Exxon in Beeville, Texas. He worked for his father-in-law and later purchased the station in 1958. He sold Elder Exxon and retired in 1998. When you showed up at Elder Exxon, Jack greeted you with a smile and a helping hand. His station became more than a business- it was a gathering place, a cornerstone of the community and a reflection of the man behind it.

Jack was a faithful servant to his God. He served as a member and Deacon at the Beeville Church of Christ for many years. He later moved to Fayette County in January of 2021 and became a member of the La Grange Church of Christ.

Jack proudly served the United States Army as a Private First Class from 1955-1958 alongside his twin brother, John. Jack also served his community for over 58 years with the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department. He spent many nights responding to fires, wrecks and whatever else was asked of him.

Jack was a loving husband to Betty McClelen Elder for 68 years until her death in 2021. They built a life together that everyone admired. To say he was a devoted husband would be the understatement of the century.

Jack was especially proud of his three children Kenneth, Jeffrey ad Debra. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy and purpose. His lengthy stories were always filled with humor, and sometimes good life lessons. Jack will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

Jack is survived by his children: Kenneth Jack (Beth), Jeffrey Keith (Celeste), and Debra Byler (Scott); five grandchildren, Russell Elder (Dana), Phillip Elder (Hailey), Sara Coffey (Eric), Callie Minor (Jeramy), and Brandon Byler (Dana); and six great-grandchildren, Lawrence, Immy and Opal, Blakely, Kynslie and Colston.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty McClelen Elder, infant daughter, Debra Lou, two brothers James Elder and John Elder (twin brother) and parents Alfred and Beulah Elder.

Funeral services for Jack Elder are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2025 at the La Grange Church of Christ with visitation from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
