Helen Matocha, age 78, of La Grange, passed away on May 25, 2013 in Austin, TX.
She was born on January 27, 1935 at home near Cistern, Texas to V.H. Barina and Mollie Mares Barina. Helen married Adolph Matocha Jr. in 1957. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn and SPJST.
She graduated from Smithville High School and became a lifelong Longhorn as she got her degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Helen was a teacher for many years. She taught at Sacred Heart Catholic School in La Grange, St. Michael’s Catholic School in Weimar and La Grange Middle School. She had a passion for learning and teaching all her life. Her love for teaching led her to teach swimming for almost 50 years.
Her second passion was her love for her Czech heritage; she was always an advocate for the Czech culture and a volunteer at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange.
Helen is survived by her husband Adolph Matocha Jr; four sons, Garry Matocha and wife Patti of Spring, Thomas Matocha and wife Lucy of Bastrop, Gregory Matocha and wife Julia of Murphy, Keith Matocha and wife Cindy of Magnolia; one daughter, Jennifer Gillie and husband Billy of Houston; eleven grand children; 1 great grandchild; six sisters, Georgia Pool of Austin, Bertha Norman of Richardson, Edna Tennison of Florida, Gladys Zimmerhanzel of La Grange, Mary Barina of Bastrop and Dorthy Barina of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, V.H. Barina and Mollie Mares Barina.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
