Harold Bergmann was born March 7, 1926 at Warrenton, Texas to Otto and Frieda (Spies) Bergmann. Harold was baptized May 24, 1926 and later confirmed on September 15, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton, Texas. In later years he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, Texas.

Harold left this life in the early morning of November 29, 2008 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange, Texas at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 22 days.

Harold was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, SPJST Lodge 179 in Warrenton, Sons of Hermann Lodge 151 in Round Top, Florida Chapel Cemetery Association and Round Top Rifle Association.

Harold attended Warrenton School and La Grange High School. As a young man Harold took care of his ill mother and the family farm after his father died at a young age. He was employed by Consolidated Lockers in La Grange as a meat processor and later at Eckerman’s doing the same. Harold then established a grave digging business working for the local funeral homes with some of his friends. In between jobs, Harold built fences for local land owners and baled hay. His last employment was with Fayette County Precinct #2 overseeing the county dump before his arthritis became disabling. Harold was a historian for the area and loved keeping up with local current events.

Harold is survived by a nephew, Fred Bergmann and wife, Verna of Burton; a niece, Carol Hall and her husband, Henry of Burton; a nephew, Duane Bergmann and his wife, Delores of Waller; a niece, Cynthia Bartek and her husband, Edwin of Warrenton; one sister-in-law, Erna Bergmann of Brenham, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Otto Bergmann, Jr. of Burton, a brother Delfine Bergmann and a sister-in-law, Sadie Bergmann of Warrenton.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, December 1, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening.

The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John David Nedbalek officiating. Interment will be in the Florida Chapel Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Florida Chapel Cemetery Association.
