Funeral services for Elgene Richard Eckermann are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange with a private, family interment at Hill Cemetery in Round Top. The family will receive family and friends at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral.

Elgene, 86 of Round Top, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 22, 2025 in Smithville, Texas. He was born on July 7, 1939 to Barnet and Reseda (Galle) Eckermann and grew up in the Industry community. He graduated from Bellville High School and later married the love of his life, Doris Jean Leonhardt on June 16, 1963 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top.

The Eckermann’s were longtime owners of Warrenton Grocery. Elgene worked for the ASCS Office (the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service) for many years and retired from the US Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier. Elgene enjoyed ranching, gardening, hunting, fishing and making barbecue. He was also a devoted football fan, watching college games on Saturdays and professional games on Sundays. Elgene will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Elgene is survived by his wife, Doris, children, Rhonda Clemons of La Grange, Jeanne Flinn and husband Michael of Kingsbury, Greg Eckermann of La Grange and Matthew Eckermann of Russia, grandchildren, Briana Bianchini and husband Nick of New Orleans, Louisiana., Bethany Clemons of Kyle, Andrew Clemons and Aiden Clemons both of La Grange, Clark Flinn and wife Allison of Buda, Nick Flinn of Kingsbury and Jace Flinn of Rogers, Arkansas, great-grandchildren, Clay and Daisy Flinn of Buda, brother, Wendell Eckermann, sister, Sheryl Schultz and husband Tommy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Elgene is preceded in death by his parents, Reseda and Barnet Eckermann, sister and brother-in-law, Joycine and Louis Hanath, sister-in-law, Margaret Eckermann and son-in-law Dr. Patrick Clemons.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Warrenton-Round Top Volunteer Fire Department, Carmine Volunteer Fire Department, or to plant a tree in his memory (www.fayettememorialfuneralhome.com under Elgene Eckermann’s obituary page).
