Dora Moellenberg

d. March 11, 2013

Dora “Doe” Behrens Moellenberg, born October 5, 1914 in Oldenberg, Texas. Dora lived in La Grange her entire life and passed away on March 11, 2013 in the Care Inn Nursing Home. She would have been 99 this October 5th. She suffered a stroke on Tuesday, March 5th. Family members visiting with her 2 days before reported her memory was clear and her personality vibrant as always.

Born on the homestead in Oldenberg to Adoph and Gesine (Knake) Behrens. She came from a large loving family. She attended the La Grange schools where her father was a teacher and superintendent. Her first job was as a telephone operator where she made lifelong friends.

She was married to Alfred Henry Moellenberg until his death in 1981. A very handsome man she met on a blind date. A few days after they married he left to serve in WWII. They had one daughter, Ann Cizmar.

Dora was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and had a great respect for Reverend Sid Roden (Pastor Sid) of whom she spoke highly. A very spiritual and religious lady who enjoyed watching religious programs on TV.

Her hobbies were reading and sewing. She loved non-fiction and Reader’s Digest. Giving her a subscription to the magazine was like giving her gold. She would mark the articles and suggest you read them. She had given up sewing for years until her nephew gave her a new sewing machine on her last birthday, which revived her joy of sewing again. She loved to talk about sewing and getting new material. A favorite sewing story was when she was at a relative’s house she cut out a pattern for them on their bed only to discover she cut the bedspread out too.

Dora was employed at the La Grange Hospital for over 20 years as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed people and helping those in need, always there with a kind word.

She is survived by one daughter, Ann Cizmar of Almond, WI; Sister, Laura Behrens Thac and brother-in-law Frank Thac of Pasadena, TX, their children Gary, Donald and Darrell Thac of Houston; one grandson, Christopher Taylor of Bryan, TX; one granddaughter, Alexander (Ali) Cizmar of San Antonio, TX; nephew John A.
