Donna Lee (Brandes) Bridwell, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home in West Point, Texas, on March 24, 2026. Born on March 1, 1943, in East Bernard, Texas, Donna lived a life marked by dedication to family, service, and a passion for her heritage and interests.

Donna was the loving wife of the late Dr. Jack Bridwell, an optometrist, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Throughout his career, Donna played an instrumental role by managing his practice's daily operations and providing steadfast support behind the scenes that contributed significantly to its success. Her commitment to her family extended beyond her husband; she cherished her role as a mother to her sons, Brandon and Dusty, and as a grandmother to six grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Brandon and wife Christi of West Point and their children Hailey Bridwell, Jake Bridwell, Mallory Ivey, Jackson Ivey, and Dusty and wife Debra of Crozet, Virginia, and their children Dillon Bridwell, and Kacie Bridwell.

Donna’s parents, Thurman W. Brandes and Gertrude E. (Bremser) Brandes, preceded her in death.

Throughout her life, Donna was deeply engaged in her community and various organizations. She was a proud member of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her volunteer efforts at Second Chance Emporium reflected her generous spirit and dedication to helping others.

An individual who “never knew a stranger,” Donna was known for making friends wherever she went. Her love for animals was evident through her care for her longhorns, donkeys and her other animals. Donna also cherished their ranch in Cotulla, Texas—a place close to her heart. Alongside her livestock, she found joy in quilting and exploring her genealogy, proudly embracing her French German heritage.

Donna's life was rich with accomplishments, but above all, her greatest pride came from her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and community spirit that will be remembered by family and friends alike.

The family acknowledges the many friends who were part of Donna’s life and who will mourn her passing.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange.

Donna made her wishes clear that she wanted a true celebration of life, so there will be a party in her honor sometime in May.
