Funeral services for David Ray Noak are scheduled for 11:00AM June 26, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville with interment following at Florida Chapel Cemetery. A visitation will be at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home on June 25, 2026 from 5:00PM-7:00PM.

David Ray Noak was born on August 23, 1950 in La Grange, Texas. His parents were Nelson F. Noak and Irene (Goehring) Noak. David was baptized and confirmed a Lutheran. He was raised in the Rutersville community and after graduating from La Grange High School he went to live and work in Austin. While in Austin he met the love of his life Mary Della Lemmons.

During the height of the Vietnam War, David joined the United States Air Force to serve his country. What was initially supposed to be a four-year hitch turned into a career of over 25 years.

While in the Air Force David and Mary were married January 9, 1970 in Abilene, Texas. They went on to have two children, Celia Marie, their daughter and David Ray II, their son. They were able to travel and live in many wonderful places together, especially two wonderful assignments in Germany. Of course, there were assignments where the family couldn’t travel together. David served numerous temporary duty assignments, a one-year remote tour and is a veteran of Desert Storm. David retired from the Air Force in 1994. He was extremely proud of retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9), the highest enlisted grade in the military branches.

After his Air Force retirement David went to work for the City of La Grange. When the opportunity arose, he ran for and was elected Mayor of La Grange for two terms. He then successfully ran for and was elected County Commissioner of Precinct One of Fayette County. After four years as a County Commissioner, he pursued other interests. He went to work for the Texas Department of Public Safety in the Emergency Management Division. He retired from the State of Texas after serving the state for 10 years as District Coordinator.

David was always active in the community serving on many councils, commissions and boards. In addition to City Council and Commissioners Court he was Commander of his local Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #5254. He willingly served on his church council and the Shared Lutheran Ministry Council of Fayette County. He also was active in Hermann Sons and served as Director on the Board of Hermann Sons Life.

David enjoyed the outdoors to include gardening and keeping Mary and David’s retirement home and property looking good and well maintained. He liked sports and his favorite teams were the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys.

Out of all things David was proud of and loved, he was most proud of and loved his wife Mary, his children, Celia and Davy and his grandchildren. Family was always most important to him.

Survived by his children, Celia Kovar and husband Matthew of La Grange, David Noak II of La Grange, special friend Theresa Garlin; brother: Nelson Noak, Jr. and special friend Annegret Goehring of Jersey Village; sisters-in-law: Sherry Noak of Rutersville and Jamie Medley of Dallas; brothers-in-law: Allen Lemmons and wife Carolyn Sue of Ft. Worth and Donald Lemmons and wife Gayle of Abilene. Grandchildren, David Noak III, Macey Kovar, Caeley Kovar, Kaden Kovar, Schyler Noak, and Khloe Noak. One great-grandchild, Lawson Kohl Kover. Also, survived by many numerous nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his wife Mary Noak: parents, Nelson and Irene Noak, grandparents; Alfred and Frieda Noak, Otto and Louise Goehring, brother: Wayne Noak, sister; Ira Nell McCoy, sisters-in-law: Shirley Noak and Vickie Dean, parents-in-law: Bobby and Betty Lemmon, and brother-in-law, Robert Lemmons.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to VFW Post #5254, St. John Lutheran Church or a charity of one’s choice.
