Daniel Olenick was born in San Antonio on February 29, 1948 to Alois Olenick and Mary (Silva) Wiley. He moved to La Grange in 1964 with his mother and stepfather who worked for MKT Railroad. He married Virginia Freudenberg on October 22, 1966 and they later had three children.
Daniel worked in the oil field industry as a driller for over 25 years. He loved fishing and hunting and often had close friends over to practice shooting bows in the backyard. He and Virginia loved spontaneous road trips and they enjoyed taking their kids to the coast when he wasn’t on the rig, even if that meant a late-night drive. They also took their grandchildren on summer road trips to the zoo, the coast, etc. Daniel attended the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum and enjoyed cooking at the annual Plum Feast. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia; children, Danny Olenick and wife Stacey of La Grange, Brad Olenick and wife Toni of Katy, Theresa Chovanec and husband Lee of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Blake Olenick and wife Sheena of China Spring, Jacey Olenick, Jamey Olenick and Peyton Olenick, all of La Grange, Briar Olenick of Grainger, Cayla Dodd of Missouri and Courtney Smith of Katy; five great grandchildren, Braxton Olenick, Braiden Olenick, Walker Wagonn, Clayton Campbell, and Cadence.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alois Olenick and Mary Wiley; stepfather, Gil Wiley; sister, Carol; in-laws Alvin and Martha Freudenberg; brother-in-law, Alvin Freudenberg, Jr., along with two Aunts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum or the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange.
