Curtis Lynn Carden, age 70 of West Point, passed away peacefully in his home on October 27, 2023 surrounded by loved ones after a brief diagnosis of cancer. He was born in Fort Hood, Texas on February 19, 1953. A few years later, him and his brother Bill were adopted by Harold L. and Norma G. Carden. He married the love of his life LeAnn Barnes on June 28, 1974.
Curtis attended Sul Ross University for one year before joining the Army and becoming a scout. He served his country proudly, and it made him even prouder when two of his sons followed in his military footsteps. After separating from the military, and several moves later, he found his home in the La Grange area. He started Texoil Services with Lynn Gibson in 1986, which is still up and running. He finally brought his and LeAnn's dreams to life with the purchase of land in West Point. In 1988, those dreams enhanced with a home for his family. Curtis was proud of his family and loved them unconditionally. He instilled great work ethics in each of his children, but, most importantly, he instilled his love for God. Better believe at Christmas time, everyone was receiving a pocket knife.
Curtis was a faithful servant and very humble. Those that knew him were truly blessed. He helped so many people in need especially when a disaster hit. He was part of one of the first crews to show up and start the cleanup process. He never wanted any accolades for helping. He did it out of pure love. While doing these clean ups, he found opportunity to bring others to Christ. He always started with his favorite bible verse John 3:16.
Curtis and his family attended Second Baptist Church for over twenty years before finding Colorado River Cowboy Church. He loved his church family and they loved him. He will be forever known as "yellow boots". He ran the chuckwagon at the church and on Sunday mornings his "sock" coffee made outside by the firepit was a huge hit. On occasion, he would throw in some homemade biscuits. He also loved helping with VBS and watching the smiling faces of the children as he bounced them around on the bull barrel. Helping others and bringing them closer to Christ will always be his true legacy.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, LeAnn Carden; children Justin Carden and wife Christina of West Point, Laura Polasek and husband Harry of La Grange, Jessica Hamby and husband Jeff of West Point, Jeremy Carden and wife Christina of Fayetteville, and Luke Carden and wife Kristen of Ellinger; grandchildren, Al Wostarek and wife Hannah, Kirkwade Polasek, Charles Carden, Shelby Carden, Landon Dickerson, Aubree Hamby, Chase Hamby, Kooper Carden, Levi Carden; great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Carson, and Riley Wostarek; siblings, Dickie Graham of Denton, Texas, Gwenda Spiteri and husband Joe of Argyle, Texas, Bill Carden and wife Diane of West Point, Ronnie Paynter and wife Rebecca of White Settlement, Texas, Niki Cofflet and husband Flip of Vero Beach, FL, and Ricky Graham of Missouri. Curtis loved his family with all his heart. Losing him has taken a huge piece of all of our hearts, but we all know we will see him again someday.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Norma Carden; in-laws Bill and Janet Barnes; and good friend James Pfluger.
