Calvin Charlton Rackley II, known throughout his life as “Corky,” passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family. 

Corky was born in Houston, Texas, and was a Bellaire High School graduate. He later earned his engineering technician certification in 1969. On September 30, 1972, he married the love of his life, Judy Ann Sralla, beginning a marriage and partnership that would span more than five decades.

 Corky was a simple man who valued family, traditional ways and being together. In his younger years, two of his favorite hobbies were racing dirt bikes and building and racing midgets on dirt tracks in the Houston area. Over the years, Corky continued to enjoy the simple things in life. He loved family meals around the dinner table, playing cards, taking leisurely country drives, traveling with Judy in their RV, and spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite times were spent on their back porch, savoring a cold beer and a handful of peanuts, the lingering smell of something smoking on the pit with family and friends gathered around. Later in life, Corky liked to say, “We better go while we can,” and he and Judy did just that—taking trips, getting in one of their various RVs, going for leisurely drives, and making many memories together along the way.

Through every season of Corky’s life, one thing remained constant: Judy was by his side. She was his beloved wife, his companion, a mother to his two children, and the person with whom he chose to share his life. Corky cherished Judy, and whether they were traveling somewhere new or simply sitting together at home, they happily experienced everything together.

Corky was known by different names to the many people who loved him. To his siblings, nieces, and nephews, he was Bubba. To his daughters, Kelly and Brandye, he was Daddy. And to his grandchildren, he was Gramps.

Corky was preceded in death by his father, “Smiling” Buddy Rackley; his mother, Anne Robinson Rackley; and his younger brother, David Rackley.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy S. Rackley; his daughter Kelly Rackley and her wife, Teresa Scarano; his daughter Brandye Randermann and her husband, Randy Randermann; his grandchildren, Ashley Randermann Layton and her husband, Buxton Layton IV, Alex Randermann, and Austin Randermann; his siblings, Charla Garwick and Tim Rackley; and many extended family members and friends who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Corky’s life was not defined by grand possessions or accomplishments, but by the people beside him and the memories they made together—the trips taken, the cards played, the meals shared, the evenings on the back porch, and more than fifty years with Judy by his side.

A celebration of Corky’s life will be held at a later date.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
