A Memorial Service for Lloyd Boyce Needham will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Flatonia.
Boyce Needham, 86, of Hallettsville, passed away on July 8, 2023. He was born in Shiner, Texas on July 27, 1936, to Edward Earl and Zora Almedia (Cowan) Needham.
From early childhood and until late in his life, Boyce was always involved in raising, auctioning, or managing cattle. Boyce grew up working at the Flatonia Livestock Auction barn, an operation founded in 1948 by his parents Earl and Almedia Needham and the Beken family of Weimar. In addition to working at the auction barn, Boyce also was involved in his school's FFA program, raising animals for the local livestock shows. He graduated from Flatonia High School and Texas A&M where he earned a bachelor's degree in animal science. After college he married and started working as a cattle buyer for Harrell Cattle Company and moved to Gonzales Texas. He worked as a rancher and cattle buyer, while mentoring his two sons in the skills of the cattle business.
During this time, he connected with his high school sweetheart and married again. They shared a dream of moving to Montana and for eight years lived in Rona, Montana as a full time rancher. Boyce returned to Gonzales, Texas and ranched till his health became an issue.
Boyce was a loving husband, father and cowboy and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Boyce is survived by his wife LaVonne (Schulte) Needham; two sons, Jason Lane Needham, and wife Charlene and Dane Neil Needham both of Gonzales; four step daughters, Kelley Kriston and husband Michael of Bradenton, Florida, Laurie Cavazos and husband Raymond of Victoria, Texas, Jamie Stavinoha and husband Michael of Victoria, and Holly Haas of Austin; two sisters, Jewel Earline Moffett and husband Nelson Ross of Georgetown and Virginia (Ginny) Lynn Sears of Flatonia; grandchildren Brittany Ashton Needham Copeland, Coltyn Wade Needham, and Brett Neil Needham; step grandchildren Ryan, Kaitlyn, Treton, Kristin, Ray, Carly, Bobby, Jade, Heath, Cole, Ashley, Paige and Drew; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Brian Wade Needham.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Gonzales Livestock Show Committee.
