Barbara Pampell Hielscher

Barbara Pampell Hielscher, age 70, passed away on April 11, 2008 in Winchester. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother throughout her years. She dearly loved her grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Hielscher. She was also preceded in death by her parents Milton and Esther Pampell of Winchester.

Barbara spent much of her recent life working and supporting the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and Museum in Serbin, Texas. She served as the Executive Director until her death. Barbara was passionate about preserving the past and sharing it with others. She was born in Winchester on April 8, 1938 and graduated LaGrange High School. After that, she married Carroll (Pete) Hielscher, had 2 sons and 1 daughter, and lived in Chicago and Houston before coming back to Winchester. She worked for Prudential in Houston for most of her career prior to joining the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and Museum. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her family and friends over the years. She especially enjoyed her more recent opportunities to travel to Germany, Jamaica, and Las Vegas.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry Hielscher and wife Judy of Winchester and Scott Hielscher and wife Cindy of Austin; her daughter Patti Hielscher Hungerford and husband Terry of Winchester; her grandchildren, Heather Hielscher Deters and husband Greg of Winchester, Jerry Hielscher II of Houston, Ashley Hielscher of Austin and Chuck Hielscher of Austin; her sister, Mary Watts and her husband Kenneth of Katy; her nephew Kirt Watts and his daughter Jordan Watts of Katy, and her niece Kelli Bloxham and husband Chris and daughter McKay.

Services will be conducted Monday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in LaGrange, Texas. She will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church cemetery in Winchester, Texas following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Texas Wendish Heritage Society and Museum 1011 County Road 212 Giddings, Texas 78942 or the Winchester Volunteer Fire Department 8810 FM153 LaGrange, Texas 78945.
