Arland G. Tiemann, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 20, 2011, in Houston, Texas. Arland was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ellsie Tiemann and his wife Claudia Tiemann.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son, Mark Tiemann, and his sister Verlene Citzler and her husband Atlan. He is also survived by his niece and nephews: Atlan Citzler, Jr. and wife Jeanie, Stephen Citzler and his wife Sharron and Annette Citzler.
Arland was born and went to high school in La Grange, Texas. He was in the U. S. Army, Company K, 349th Infantry, for the campaign of Italy, during World War II. He studied heating and air-conditioning at the University of Houston after being discharged from the service. For a large part of his career, he was a construction supervisor for Barber-Colman Company and later a service representative for Johnson Controls. He hand-built a residential A. C. unit of his own design and 45 plus years later of continuous use, itis still cooling.
His interests included, Bible study, gardening, feeding wild doves, freshwater Bass fishing, fixing “things” on his work bench in the garage, and in his later retired years, revisited Ballroom dance, from an earlier time in his life when he and Claudia originally met, and went on to teach other senior citizens Ballroom dance for free. He was an active member of the Lancers dance group.
The family would like to invite Arland’s friends to the visitation, from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday August 24, 2011, at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home, 967 East Colorado, La Grange, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM, Thursday August 25, 2011, at La Grange City Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 PM, Thursday August 25, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main, Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.
